About Boon.

Story and vision

Winchester-based Boon is a bespoke build company founded by George Mayes. In September 2019 Boon completed its inaugural building project at Vale Farm on the outskirts of Winchester and The Pigsty was launched for luxury overnight stays, it has been fully booked ever since. Guests shed the stress of the city and relax in a private belt of woodland set deep within a 600-acre farm all to themselves. The Pigsty is a beautiful creation, with a domed, corrugated steel roof, reclaimed timber throughout, double-glazed steel French doors and windows, a fully-fitted kitchen, roll-top bath and reclaimed cast iron radiators.

So successful was the build, that in 2020 it was voted the ‘UK’s most ‘Wish-Listed’ Airbnb Home for Britons‘, and continues to be booked up months in advance.

Boon’s luxury prefabricated modular buildings are created in their Winchester-based workshop and can be craned into position in any desired location. Their hand-crafted structures omit the need for traditional foundations and can be relocated in the future offering total flexibility. The pre-fab nature of the builds allows for total control over each process with no need for outside trades, keeping the process on budget and on time.

With a growing team of specialist tradesmen, George oversees every project personally, from the first development meeting through to completion, ensuring the quality is consistently First Class and giving ultimate client confidence.

Boon quickly took on a number of commissioned projects, their innovative structures ranging from more Airbnbs, personal cabins for seasonal rental, to gorgeous home office spaces, adding tangible value and helping businesses diversify.

The environment is at the core of everything Boon does and each build uses a vast amount of locally-sourced, reclaimed material alongside the latest, most thermally efficient products, keeping energy consumption low without compromising on a luxurious finish.

Many of Boon’s builds have been inspired by an old Crittall window or a great piece of metalwork, something that can be brought back to life and refashioned into something new, giving each structure its own unique character and personality.

A big part of Boon’s focus is on reclaimed wood, with the majority of their builds made from entirely repurposed timber. It’s what gives them their look; an authentic, tactile finish which works brilliantly juxtaposed against luxury fixtures and fittings. All of this combined gives a unique aesthetic to each build, setting them apart

About founder, George Mayes

For the last decade, George has run a successful building company in London working on residential refurbishments and commercial development projects around the capital. His building expertise and design talent are evident with every build that Boon produces, whether that be a bespoke project or an off-the-peg prefab like their new home offices.

“The design process is close to my heart, my dad designed and built power boats, and I love the creative nature of my work; I feel invested in it.”

“I love the build process and have gained a lot of experience working on big builds throughout my career, but what I love the most is the continuity and efficiency of a workshop space which Boon allows me – and waiting for trades on a rainy building site in London does not! The design process is close to my heart, my dad designed and built power boats, and I love the creative nature of my work; I feel invested in it. It’s great seeing a new design come alive and seeing clients get excited about a new venture, whether that be personal or business-related.”
